Ford presents the new Mustang, still faithful to the V8

Although the American brand recently launched its Mustang Mach-E electric SUV, the queen of muscle cars remains in the catalog. At the Detroit show we also discovered the 7th generation that will arrive in Europe at the end of 2023.

It was a daring bet. To speed up its transition to electric, Ford has chosen a mythical name, that of its famous Mustang. Something to confuse more than one fan, with this Mustang Mach-E, which in addition to adopting a 100% electric motorization, takes the form of an SUV. Almost a double sacrilege, but fully assumed by Ford in its low carbon strategy, particularly in Europe, where the brand is aiming for a zero-emission range only by 2030.

But the Mustang, the real thing, with a big V8 under the hood, lives on. Well, we’ll be back this Thursday. In the Detroit show that has just opened its doors, Ford has just presented the 7th generation, which will arrive in Europe at the end of 2023.

The opportunity to discover its design evolution, which contrasts particularly with the previous generation without altering the codes too much.

A V8 5.0, essential in the Mustang

The Mustang will continue to be offered in two body versions, the “fastback” coupe or the “open top” convertible. The 5-liter V8 engine is still there, with a fourth generation “that even offers improved response and performance,” underlines the Ford press release, which does not specify its power, a priori still close to the 450 horsepower of the generation. previous. In Europe it will be the only engine offered, while Americans will a priori be able to continue to opt for the 4-cylinder Ecoboost as an alternative.

An engine connected to the rear wheels through a gearbox that remains the choice between a 10-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual for the purists.

modernized interior

But it’s probably inside that the Mustang makes the most changes, probably a bit jealous of its electric cousin, which was also packed with new tech.

We thus discover a combination of screens, with the counter screen that extends into a 13.2-inch touch screen for infotainment.

Ford also promises a “fully customizable interior environment” with “digital displays and ambient interior lighting that can be set to the driver’s chosen hues, while instrument gauges adapt to the selected drive mode.”
