What could be the ideal used car for a motorist in France? The used online specialist Heycar took stock of the research on his site last year.

First surprise: the research focuses massively on cars with an automatic gearbox, by 75%. An impressive figure when you know the reluctance of some drivers to abandon their gear stick. But, since 2021, most new cars sold in France are equipped with an automatic transmission, he stressed then. RTL.
Less surprisingly, the SUV easily outperforms the searched vehicle formats, with nearly a third targeting this vehicle type. The sedan is far behind at 16%, ahead of wagons at 13%, compacts at 8% and vans at 7%. They’ve all but disappeared from the new offering in recent years, but coupes and convertibles are even less sought after.
Unlike the second-hand world market, where last year the majority of purchases were still diesel, Heycar’s searches focus more than 50% on gasoline models. Diesel (28% of searches) continues to be ahead of hybrids (13%) and electric (5.7%).
Finally, on the color side: black stands out as the star of the research at Heycar, with 25%. We stick to classic colors in the rest of the top 3, with gray at 18% and white at 16%. Blue is fourth, with 10%, ahead of red with 8%.
The Clio in front of the Golf and the 3008
Despite the taste of buyers for SUVs, if we look at the models sought after with more than 420,000 queries, the Renault Clio is still the leader, ahead of the Volkswagen Golf. The Peugeot 3008 is still in 3rd place ahead of two other models from the lion brand: the 208 and the 308.
