Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced Tuesday that US electric vehicle maker Tesla will open a factory in Monterrey, northern Mexico.
“This is going to mean a great investment and a lot of jobs,” said Andrés Manuel López Obrador, adding that the company will give more details starting “tomorrow” on Wednesday, including on the issue of water scarcity in this part of Mexico. . .
“I inform the people of Mexico that I spoke with Mr. Elon Musk (CEO of Tesla) on two occasions,” he said.
Sixth factory in the world
It was not clear if this plant will produce vehicles or batteries and other components. It will be Tesla’s sixth production site in the world, after Fremont, the Nevada, Texas, and New York Gigafactories in the United States, the Shanghai Gigafactory in China, and the Berlin Gigafactory in Germany.
