The drop in fuel prices continued last week. Diesel thus lost 5.8 cents to stand on average in France at 1.6995 euros per liter, indicates the latest weekly statement from the Ministry of Ecological Transition stopped on Friday, September 16.
In the case of 95-E10 unleaded gasoline, the decrease was very slight, with a drop of 0.4 cents, and an average price of 1.496 euros per litre.
Stable prices since the beginning of September
Prices are stabilizing after falling sharply since September 1, when the government rebate was reduced from 18 cents to 30 cents per litre. At the same time, TotalEnergies is applying an additional discount of 20 cents per liter throughout its network (Total and Acceso Total), which has also caused a sharp increase in traffic in recent days, with some stations without partial or total stock.
As a reminder, the government discount will be 30 cents until November 1, when it should be reduced to 10 cents until January 1, 2023. The 20-cent discount applied by TotalEnergies must end on November 1.
A liter of diesel at the level of February
In this context, and despite the fact that the price of a barrel of Brent rose slightly last week (+1.2 dollars a barrel to 91.9 dollars), fuel prices are once again at historic lows.
We have to go back to the beginning of February 2022, before the start of the war in Ukraine, to see diesel below 1.7 euros per liter on average in France. For gasoline, we have to go back to the end of April 2021 to find an average price below 1.5 euros.
