The effects of paid parking in Paris had an immediate effect on two-wheeler registrations. According to the Solly Azar-AAA Data observatory in the 1st quarter of 2023, sales of new or used two-wheelers fell 2.3% from 271,692 registered vehicles in 2022 against 265,570 in 2023.
New vehicles managed to hold their own with a 0.7% drop, while the used vehicle market fell 2.8%. Without the electric, the trend could have been tougher. The Observatory notes a strong increase of 13.8% in the registrations of electric two-wheeled vehicles with 11,993 vehicles in the first quarter of 2023 compared to 10,531 in 2022.
In Paris, competition from public transport
In the new, sales fell from 1,144 in 2022 against 1,377 in 2023. On the occasion, they fell from 575 in 2022 to 712 in 2023. On the other hand, in Paris they fell by more than 10%.
“This trend is explained by the alternative solutions offered by public transport for trips and distances covered as part of daily mobility in dense areas”, indicate the authors of the observatory.
