At a time of climate emergency, how do the French view the aviation sector? If there is an enquête de l’Ifop* réalisée pour le Groupement des Industries Françaises Aéronautiques et Spatiales (Gifas) à l’occasion de l’ouverture du Salon du Bourget ce mondi, a large majority of people questioned on a good opinion of the filière aéronautique French.
For 88% of them, the aeronautical industry “constitutes a showcase of French know-how at an international level in the field of advanced technologies”. They are so much to affirm that this sector “is a strategic sector because it ensures a lot of research and technological and scientific developments”. It is also a “sector with a promising future” for 85% of those surveyed and an industry that is one of the main employers in the country (74%).
In addition, more than seven out of ten French people (72%) believe that the aeronautical sector will succeed in innovating in the coming years to reduce the impact of air transport on the environment.
Less polluting aircraft projects that make 88% of the French “optimistic”
To green the sector, 59% of those surveyed recommend incentivizing and incentivizing the sector to innovate and change its practices, while 26% believe that measures should be taken to limit and reduce air traffic.
Although the aeronautical industry is currently working on the development of biofuels, hydrogen aircraft or electric or hybrid propulsion aircraft to decarbonise the sector, this research also makes 66% of the French “optimistic” on the industry’s ability to further protect the environment.
Finally, the majority of those surveyed believe that the plane is the best way to travel over relatively long distances (91%) and that it is synonymous with travel and discovery (87%). They are also 78% to believe that it is the safest means of transport. 64% also recognize that the price of plane tickets has become more affordable in recent years thanks to the arrival of new companies.
*Survey carried out from June 8 to 9 with a sample of 1006 people, representative of the French population aged 18 and over.
