French executives no longer dream of the same companies. the american giant Googleconsistently at the top of Universum’s rankings* on the most attractive companies falls in the 2023 edition of this list.
First between 2020 and 2022 in the ranking of engineering executives, the Mountain View group is this year in fourth place. Second in the 2020 to 2022 editions in the ranking of business and management school executives, Google loses two places in 2023. The firm only retains its leadership position among IT executives.
A fall that is explained by the importance that executives now give to the telecommuting. Also according to the Universum survey, 39% of business executives surveyed say they are “less interested” in a company that does not offer this flexibility.
However, Google is now especially careful with teleworking (just like Amazon or Meta). Worse yet, he just updated his hybrid work policy that plans to double in-person time.
For the group’s HRD, “there is simply no substitute that will effectively replace meeting in person.” Specifically, employees must be present at least three days a week, teleworking must once again become “an exception”, he writes in an internal note.
The giant isn’t the only IT company making managers dream less. In the Engineers ranking, Apple lost five places, Microsoft fell two places and Amazon lost no fewer than eleven places.
Despite this lack of interest, French executives still favor luxury with LVMH at the top of the Business ranking since 2020 and Hermes which rises to second place. But, and this is a novelty, the big French industrialists are also making a name for themselves in the sun.
So, Airbus it now ranks first among the most attractive companies this year among engineering executives, ahead of Thales and EDF. Safran entered the Top 5 in fifth place with a yearly gain of 4 ranks.
Even in the ranking of IT executives, generally trusted by GAFAM, Such and Airbus debut (in 3rd and 5th place respectively) while these two companies were absent from the Top5 in the previous three rankings.
Total Energies it also clearly sees its power of attraction with executives strengthened. The energy group rose 16 places in the ranking of Business Executives (10th place) and 14 places in the IT ranking (also 10th place).
“In this 2023 edition, we see in engineers a phenomenon of a communicating vessel between industry and tech, for the benefit of the former”, he summarizes for Home The EchoesAurélie Robertet, France Director of Universum.
*: survey conducted between September 2022 and April 2023. 15,188 executives from 172 establishments in 48 sectors were interviewed. More than half of them have at least four years of experience.
