Casino takeover: Bruno Le Maire assures that “the State will be attentive to employment” but does not take sides

The Economy Minister estimated in particular that the group’s employees, 200,000 worldwide, including a quarter in France, “do not have to pay for any errors that management may have made.”

Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire called the two takeover bids for troubled distributor Casino “solid” but took no sides. During the questions to the government on Tuesday, he simply indicated that “the State will be attentive to employment” and to the maintenance of the “headquarters in Saint-Etienne”.

Questioned by the Loire deputy Quentin Bataillon (Renaissance), the Minister of the Economy spoke for the first time about the future of the Casino, which “has been experiencing significant operational and financial difficulties for several months.” In particular, he estimated that the group’s employees, 200,000 worldwide, including a quarter in France, “do not have to pay for mistakes that management may have made.”

Advantage for Daniel Kretinsky

The candidates for the recapitalization of Casino had an appointment with the Interministerial Committee for Industrial Restructuring (Ciri), on Tuesday afternoon, to defend their projects. If the dice are not rolled, Daniel Kretinsky’s bid appears to have won.

In this battle to win the brand, the Czech businessman opposes the Zouari-Niel-Pigasse trio.
