Cheese aficionados and vegetarians alike will love this version of the cheeseburger. Iconic fast food chain Burger King has just launched a sandwich called the “Real Cheeseburger” in Thailand. On the menu, therefore: no meat, vegetables or sauce, but about twenty slices of cheese stacked between two buns (this bun specially designed for hamburgers) with sesame seeds.
“This is not a joke”
The news spread like wildfire and many Internet users based in Thailand rushed to Burger King to see that this unusual sandwich was indeed available for sale. “It’s not a joke, it’s true,” is specified in the official accounts of Burger King Thailand on social networks.
The product marketed since July 11 (and only until July 13) costs 109 Thai baht, about 2.80 euros. Very quickly, the videos of influencers on TikTok multiplied to present and taste this extraordinary “cheese” sandwich.
A star snack that divides
The number of sales of the “Real Cheeseburger” skyrocketed as soon as it was announced, so much so that some franchises had to stop its delivery to keep stock for customers who came to the restaurants. This is the case of an establishment in Bangkok, whose manager was interviewed by CNN.
But this dish is not unanimous. Richard Barrow, a Thai screenwriter, explained in a tweet Burger King’s opportunism in following the country’s trend of “putting cheese everywhere.”
“I love cheese but I struggled to eat even half of this burger,” she added, posting a photo of the burger cut in half showing layers of unmelted cheese.
Customers interviewed by CNN also seem to agree, noting a “crazy amount of cheese” as well as an “intense flavor” that quickly makes the first bite indigestible.
