Proof of a balance of power mostly in favor of airline pilots, United Airlines has agreed with the ALPA union (Air Line Pilots Association) a revaluation of up to 40% of these employees.
Described as “historic” by this union, this wage increase will be extended over 4 years and will cost the US airline, which employs 16,000 pilots according to ALPA, 10 billion dollars.

The latter will benefit from an increase from 13.8% to 18.7% this year depending on the type of aircraft flown, followed by four annual increases. What to reach the end between 34.5% to 40.2% of accumulated salary increase in total.
“We have promised our world-class pilots the best contract they deserve and we are pleased to have reached an agreement with ALPA on that,” said Scott Kirby, United Airlines CEO.
Pilots are becoming a rare commodity for companies around the world that are facing a very strong recovery in air traffic that is almost returning to that seen before the covid crisis. Agreements between unions and management are multiplying, therefore (as in American Airlines or Delta) after long years of negotiations and strikes.
