Inflation slowed markedly in the UK in June, to 7.9% in a year from 8.7% in May, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said on Wednesday.
However, this rate of price increase is still the highest for a G7 country. Sterling responded by falling against the dollar as investors lowered their expectations of interest rate hikes from the Bank of England.
