For his first trip as president of Medef, on Thursday, Patrick Martin went to Brittany, near Rennes, to a pastry factory belonging to the industrialist Bridor. A symbolic site because the manufacturer has just given up on the creation of a new site due to the excessive number of administrative appeals filed by opponents of the project.
Three days after taking office, Patrick Martin came to support Louis Le Duff, the industrialist at the head of the Bridor Group, one of the world leaders in bakery, who has just abandoned his factory project a few kilometers from Rennes.
“Rationalizing” Economic Debates
The head of Medef took the opportunity to denounce the “administrative complications”. Because the Le Duff group had received all the necessary authorizations for their project. But administrative appeals filed by environmental activists have caused too much delay. And Le Duff ended up throwing in the towel. “There is a need, and the Medef will work on it, so that we rationalize, so that we objectify a certain number of debates,” said Patrick Martin.
Having made reindustrialization a strong axis of his program for Medef, Patrick Martin regretted that Bridor had given up on his project due to blockades by opponents. “That’s what set the Le Duff group back, which is viscerally attached to its territory and which is a global success story. It’s a shame to come to this.”
Medef attentive to production tax cuts
Another issue of concern for the president of Medef, that of the reduction in taxes on production (the contribution on the added value of companies or CVAE) that could finally be extended in a longer period than expected. “We will be very careful to ensure that the word of the State is respected. Everyone is aware that French companies, despite progress, suffer from a lack of competitiveness, particularly fiscal ones”, recalled Patrick Martin.
For the Medef president, taking a step back on this issue would be another very bad signal sent to the French industry.
