Thirty employees of the prêt-à-porter brand Camaieu, in liquidation, broke into the company’s headquarters in Roubaix on Tuesday, after a general assembly held on the sidelines of the CGT call.
The demonstrators, accompanied by the delegate of the CGT Thierry Siwik, knocked down a fence to enter the parking lot of the venue. They then went to the room, without the intervention of the security guards, before occupying the premises, claiming to want to stay there immediately. “I understand your anger. It is very sad. The company did not deserve to disappear,” reacted the general director of Camaieu, Sandrine Lilenfeld, present at the scene.
“We want to show that the company belongs to us”
“It’s part of the balance of power, otherwise we won’t be heard,” explained Thierry Siwik, whose union is not in the majority. “We want to show that the company belongs to us, that we are not responsible for this situation, that the shareholder is responsible,” he added, stressing that there would be “no break.”
Some fifty employees, some wearing CGT vests, had previously gathered outside to listen to CGT lawyer Me Fyodor Rilov suggest that they initiate proceedings against management. Objective: receive maximum compensation and convict “those guilty of this social and economic injustice.”
Insolvent two years after its takeover by the Financière immobilière bordelaise, Camaieu, which employs some 2,600 employees – including half a thousand in Roubaix – was liquidated on September 28 by the Lille commercial court and its activities ceased on October 1.
