Airports handled a record 31 million passengers through June

The first half of the year set new records for tourism in the country – in terms of overnight stays and guests as well as revenue. And the numbers were also felt at the country’s main entry point for visitors. Between January and June, a record 31 million passengers were processed at national airports, equivalent to the 24 million passengers processed in the same period of 2022 (+28.4%). The numbers also represent a 12% growth compared to the first half of 2019, according to data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) on Monday, December 14.

“Since the beginning of 2023, there have been historical maximums in the monthly values ​​of passengers at national airports,” the statistics office emphasizes.

Rapid air transport statistics also show that Lisbon airport registered the highest growth between January and June: +30.9% compared to 2022 and +8.7% compared to the first half of 2019. Humberto airport Delgado was responsible for the majority of passenger traffic in the country, with an expression of 50.8%, totaling 15.9 million passengers.

This is followed by Porto airport, where the number of passengers increased by 28.1%, and Faro airport with a growth of 20.6%.
