It is the new competitor of the SNCF. Arriving in France a month ago, the Spanish operator Renfe announces that it has sold 100,000 tickets on its new Barcelona-Lyon and Madrid-Marseille routes that serve various southern cities such as Perpignan, Narbonne, Montpellier, Béziers or Aix-en-Provence .
As planned, “after this good start, Renfe will begin daily operations on the Lyon line on September 1 and on the Marseille line on October 1,” the company confirmed in a press release. In fact, their trains only ran from Friday to Monday in July and August.
An occupancy rate of 80%
Since its high-speed AVE (Alta Velocidad Española) trains have been running on the rails of the French network, Renfe says it has transported 43,000 passengers, with an average occupancy rate of 80%.
To make itself known, the operator launched a very attractive launch offer at the end of June by offering 9-euro tickets for journeys between two French cities, as well as 19-euro tickets to get to Barcelona, Zaragoza or Madrid from Montpellier or Narbonne and tickets at 29 for the entire journey between Marseille or Lyon and Spain. These tickets are marketed for travel until October 31.
