The back-to-school subsidy paid this Wednesday to 3 million families

Nearly 3 million families will benefit from the back-to-school subsidy intended to support the most modest parents.

After Mayotte and Réunion at the beginning of August, the return to school allowance (ARS) will be paid this Wednesday in mainland France and in the other overseas departments. Aimed at supporting parents of children between the ages of 6 and 18 to pay for school backpacks and other supplies, this aid will benefit 3 million families, or approximately 5 million children.

Revalued in summer by 5.6% compared to 2022, the ARS amounts this year to 398.09 euros for children from 6 to 10 years old, 420.05 euros for children from 11 to 14 years old and 434.61 euros for adolescents from 15 to 18 years.

To benefit from the ARS, the annual resources of a family with a dependent child must not exceed 25,775 euros. The resource ceiling then increases by 5,948 euros for each additional dependent child (31,723 euros for 2 children, 37,671 euros for three children, etc.).

“When the family’s resources slightly exceed the ceiling, then they benefit from a return to school subsidy at a reduced rate, decreasing according to their income,” specifies the Ministry of Solidarity.

Automatic payment

As a reminder, the Back to School Grant is automatically paid to parents ages 6-15 who are already CAF recipients. In the event that the child in question is under 6 years of age but returns to the CP, a school certificate must be sent to the CAF in order to receive the aid. Finally, if the child is between 16 and 18 years old, it is necessary to declare that she is still in school or learning from the “My account” space on the CAF website.

Please note that people who are not yet beneficiaries must create a personal space on the CAF website to benefit from the ARS.

If the back-to-school allowance was increased recently, some call for it to be increased even more, while “this year, school supplies will increase by 10%, a sharp increase after a 6% increase last year”, reported. on BFMTV Grégoire Ensel, national president of the federation of Parents’ Councils (FCPE), demanding a revaluation of 10%.
