Fuel Strains: Passenger Carriers Forced to Cancel Tours

Late, lower than expected or even canceled fuel deliveries cause great difficulties for passenger transport operators (buses, coaches, school buses).

Motorists today have all the trouble in the world to refuel. According to the government, “12% of the stations throughout the country encounter difficulties in at least one type of fuel, with variability since in the Hauts-de-France region, we reach more than 30% of the stations that encounter difficulties”. Olivier Véran explained this Wednesday at the end of the Council of Ministers.

But people aren’t the only ones struggling to find fuel. Professionals also experience supply difficulties, in particular public transport companies.

“In the diesel market, almost a quarter is delivered directly to professional users, carriers, farmers, builders, etc. it is not a shortage, it is because the product is struggling to arrive, “explains on BFMTV Frédéric Plan, general delegate of the French Federation of Fuels, Fuels and Heaters.

“A situation that has not been seen for 30 years”

A tense situation confirmed to BFM Business by Ingrid Mareschal, General Delegate of the National Federation of Passenger Transport (FNTV).

“Some deliveries are cancelled, delayed by several days, or the volumes delivered are much lower than the orders (around a third),” continues Ingrid Mareschal.

The consequences on transport supply are immediate: “Some transport services have had to be canceled and carriers are asking us if they should cancel the services scheduled for later this week if they are not delivered on time. Our affiliates tell us that they haven’t experienced this situation in 30 years.”

Particularly tense situation in the North and the Great East

According to the official, tensions are particularly strong “in the north and the Grand Est, but the entire northern half of France seems affected.”

Public authorities are obviously alerted. “We have a meeting on Friday morning with the offices of Clément Beaune (Minister Delegate for Transport) and Agnès Pannier-Runacher (Minister for Ecological Transition) but we are having trouble getting accurate information from the State on the precise situation to date, specifies Ingrid Mareschal. The State recognizes great difficulties but asks us to reassure carriers to avoid any panic effect that excessive consumption may cause.

A bit like motorists today rushing to service stations. Contacted by BFM Business, the RATP and the Keolis group have not yet returned our requests for information.
