The deadline for payment of the Additional Municipal Property Tax (AIMI) will start this Friday, with owners being able to pay the tax until the end of September.
Contrary to what happens with IMI, which can be paid in stages when its value exceeds 100 euros, the Additional IMI gives rise to a single collection letter payable in one installment, which is calculated on the basis of the taxable equity value (VPT ). of the buildings listed on the main office on January 1 of the year to which the tax relates.
The AIMI is levied on the sum of the VPT of urban properties (including building land), excluding urban properties classified as “commercial, industrial or for services” and “other”. Still outside the scope of this tax are properties that were exempt or not subject to the payment of IMI the previous year.
The AIMI is aimed at businesses and individuals and includes different rates for each of these types of taxpayers.
While in the case of corporations, the tax rate is 0.4% levied on the whole asset value of urban residential buildings and building land they own,for individuals, three levels of compensation are provided: a compensation of 0.7% on the asset value of properties exceeding 600,000 euros; another 1% if the amount exceeds one million euros; and a third of 1.5% for amounts above two million euros.
Married couples can double the exempt amount in each of the tax levels (to €1.2 million; €2 million and €4 million) if they choose and inform the AT that they want to be taxed together.
The AIMI is also payable for undivided inheritances and can be applied to the entire estate or to the share of each heir, if the latter communicates his intention to the AT, a procedure to be indicated by the head of the couple and confirmed by all heirs annually.
The income from the additional IMI is allocated to the Social Security Financial Stabilization Fund (FEFSS).
