Towards an unlimited transport package in France? Questioned this Monday afternoon by the cameraman Hugo Décrypte, Emmanuel Macron declared himself “favorable” to the implantation in France of a device similar to the “Deutschlandticket” launched by Germany last spring. This ticket allows unlimited travel on public transport and German regional trains except high-speed lines for 49 euros per month.
“Yes, I am in favor and I have asked the Minister of Transport to launch, with all the regions that are willing to do so, the same device”, declared Emmanuel Macron, recalling that in France it is “the regions that [décident] their ticket prices.
Great success in Germany
The unlimited ticket has been a huge success in Germany since its launch in May: 7 million people have already subscribed, including two million who previously did not have a public transport pass. In France, Elisabeth Borne announced in June the creation of a pass valid on Intercités and TGV reserved for young people between the ages of 18 and 20 who are carrying out a SNU, a civic service or a youth employment contract.
