TAP: Former CEO says no court ruling can repair ‘massive reputational damage’

“I hope the whole truth comes to light. Unfortunately, any decision that will be made will not be able to fully repair the enormous reputational and personal damage I have suffered and continue to suffer. No one should have to go through what I’ve been through it, neither personally nor professionally,” says Christine Ourmières-Widener.

In a statement to the agency Lusa, a day after the lawsuit was filed demanding 5.9 million euros, the former CEO of TAP recalls that it was the government that “invited an international manager, with a career on the rise” .

“I was not the one who sought the position of CEO of TAP. It was the government that invited me. They invited an international manager, with a rising career, who guaranteed the payment of a bonus that was decisive for my acceptance and decision to to change my whole family to Portugal, signed a contract for 5 years, which was abruptly and unjustly interrupted,” he says.

Christine Ourmières-Widener reiterates that she has “always acted with full transparency” and “in good faith” in running the airline and recalls financial results that have “never been achieved before”.

“I believe in justice, both in Portugal and abroad. I have been silent, out of respect for TAP and its employees, and therefore once again regret the government’s public reaction to the trial,” he said.
