The Volkswagen Autoeuropa car factory in Palmela will start a nine-week production stop this Monday that has already led to the dismissal of hundreds of precarious workers.

In addition to the 100 workers in precarious conditions laid off by the German Volkswagen Group car plant, several companies on the industrial estate have also announced their intention to lay off dozens of temporary or fixed-term contract workers.

According to the coordinator of the workers’ committees of the industrial park, Autoeuropa and the supplying companies had already confirmed the dismissal of 291 precarious workers last Friday.

However, the Union of Workers in the Manufacturing Industry, Energy and Environmental Activities of the South (SITE-Sul) assured that it was already aware of a total of 560 redundancies.

The production interruption at the Autoeuropa car factory in Palmela, Setúbal district, from September 11 to November 12, is due to the problems of a supplier in Slovenia, which was severely affected by the floods that occurred at the beginning of the year. month of August in that country.

Autoeuropa, which decided to resort to ‘layoffs’ during the production stoppage, will ensure that 95% of salaries are paid to its employees, but there are several companies on the industrial estate that are preparing to implement salary cuts of 5% . 10% and 33%.
