The European Commission announced on Wednesday that it has approved the first package of strategic plans from seven European Union (EU) countries for the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), of which Portugal is a part, in an envelope of EUR 6,700 million.
“Today [quarta-feira] The European Commission has approved the first package of CAP Strategic Plans for seven countries: Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, Poland, Portugal and Spain,” the community director announced in a statement released today.
According to Brussels, “this is an important step towards the implementation of the new CAP, on 1 January 2023”.
The ‘green light’ comes after the Ministry of Agriculture submitted the CAP Strategic Plan for the period 2023-2027 to the European Commission in mid-June, with a financial envelope of EUR 6,700 million, resources including income support, sectoral programs and rural development programs for the mainland and the autonomous regions of Madeira and the Azores.
In total, the CAP has funding of EUR 270 billion for the period 2023-2027. The seven plans approved today represent a total budget of more than €120 billion, including more than €34 billion for environmental and climate goals and ecological regimes.
