The strike in the French refineries, started several days ago by the CGT to demand salary increases, is not justified at the moment, said on Saturday Laurent Berger, general secretary of the CFDT, considering it necessary to go through a negotiation first.
“The CFDT, (is) not so much for preventive strikes,” Mr. Berger said of France Inter.
Three of the six French refineries, operated by the TotalEnergies or ExxonMobil groups, close this Saturday after a strike initiated by the CGT, which contributes to the lack of fuel at the French stations where the queues are located.

In both companies, the CGT asks for better salaries, while ExxonMobil is in salary negotiations, and it should open soon in TotalEnergies.
“Employees of Total and Exxon, you are right to demand salary increases,” admitted Berger.
But he criticized the CGT’s decision to compromise “only the balance of power without reaching the end of the logic that is to negotiate and consign a commitment in an agreement.”
At ExxonMobil, the discussions have already led to “a certain number of achievements”, in particular Mr. Berger judged, whose positions are traditionally more favorable to negotiation than those of the CGT.
