Anti-missile shield: Germany signs a “historic” agreement with Israel for the purchase of the Arrow system

Germany, in the rearmament phase since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, signed a “historic” agreement with Israel on Thursday for the purchase of the Arrow-3 missile defense system.

The deal was done unofficially, this time it’s official. Germany signed an agreement with Israel on Thursday to purchase the Arrow-3 missile defense system. For Boris Pistorius, German Defense Minister, this agreement, valued at 4 billion dollars, is historic.

This system “will prepare German air defense for the future,” added Boris Pistorius during a press conference in Berlin with his Israeli counterpart, Yoav Gallant.

Goals beyond the atmosphere

Delivery is scheduled for 2025. This system is equipped with radars, launchers and guided missiles capable of destroying targets beyond the atmosphere.

This project was revealed by the German press at the end of March 2022. To complete it, it was necessary to wait for approval from the United States, the country that supplies certain electronic components of this device.

Developed by the Israeli IAI with Boeing, the Arrow 3 is capable of intercepting ballistic missiles at altitudes exceeding 100 kilometers and with a range of up to 2,400 kilometers. This is the first time the Arrow 3 has been sold to a foreign country.

The decision to equip itself with such a shield was made after the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Berlin demands that it be operational in three places in Germany to protect its territory, but also in Poland, Romania and the Baltic countries. .
