It is a new record in tourism for the month of August, in which such a high number of guests and overnight stays have never been recorded. In the eighth month of the year, tourist accommodation in the country received 3.5 million guests (+4.8%), which corresponded to 10.1 million overnight stays (1.4%), according to data released on Friday 29 May were released by the National Statistics Institute (INE).
Portugal continues to attract more and more foreign tourists, not only as it has quickly recovered its pre-pandemic momentum in foreign markets, but also continues to successively reach the maximum number of visits. And the numbers prove it. In August, tourism indicators reached records thanks to the good performance of foreigners.
Non-residents were responsible for 6.6 million overnight stays, an increase of 6.4% compared to the same period last year.
