The president of the American union UAW (United Auto Workers), Shawn Fain, called on Friday for 7,000 more members to stop working at a Ford plant in Chicago and a General Motors plant in Lansing (Michigan).
“Despite our desire to reach a compromise, Ford and General Motors have refused to make significant progress (in the discussions),” Shawn Fain explained in a video message released Friday morning.
These employees will join the ranks of some 18,600 employees who are already on strike as part of this strike movement that began two weeks ago due to the lack of agreement on the renewal of the collective agreement at Ford, GM and Stellantis.
