Some sixty business leaders, including many start-ups, propose “applying a reduced rate of VAT to environmentally responsible products in order to decongest household wallets”, in a column published in the Sunday newspaper (JDD).
“We, the businessmen, propose to parliamentarians and the Ministry of Economy and Finance to seek a solution capable of acting” on purchasing power, business support and the ecological transition: “green VAT”, they write.
Among the signatories of many new companies that gravitate towards technology or sustainability are the leaders of Mouvement Impact France, Camif, Backmarket, BlablaCar, Yuka, Le Fourgon, Vestiaire Collective and Biocoop.
Emergency
“It is no longer possible to subject to the same tax regulations the companies that aggravate the environmental crisis and those that do everything to provide solutions. We also believe that it is urgent to encourage citizens to collectively resort to virtuous goods and services by making them identifiable and accessible to all,” they write again.
“Given the urgency, we demand that this measure be adopted as soon as the finance bill for 2023 and be the subject of new negotiations at the European level,” the leaders ask in this forum.
They consider that “if a VAT modulation is rejected by the Government due to legal or budgetary limitations, it is essential that we introduce new fiscal rules directly linked to the commitments of companies as soon as possible”.
“A modulation from 10% to 5.5% could also be established based on the company’s social commitments inherent in the design of the product or service,” they propose, before betting “that this VAT reduction does not mean an increase in margins for our companies, but concrete social repercussions”.
