Lidl is investing 6.5 ME in wage increases for employees from 2024

Lidl announced on Tuesday an increase of up to 10% in the salaries of store and warehouse workers from 2024, an investment of 6.5 million euros that will cover “more than 90%” of employees.

“In an investment worth 6.5 million euros, this increase will come into effect in January 2024, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to its value proposition to its employees and potential candidates,” Lidl said in a statement.

“In this way – he adds – store and warehouse workers will see their compensation increase next year, either through progress in existing steps or by creating an additional step.”

As the German supermarket chain recalls, this annual salary revision follows the increase in the meal allowance from 7.63 euros to 9.60 euros, announced in September and which comes into effect this month, in an additional annual investment worth 3.5 million euros.

“Being competitive and taking care of our people is one of our priorities,” said Maria Román, HR Administrator at Lidl Portugal, quoted in the statement, stressing that the group’s goal is “to guarantee the creation of stable, high-quality employment “.

Assuming that maintaining solid labor relations is a “priority”, the company says that all its employees have contracts of indefinite duration (“except in specific situations of additional work flows”), receive a meal allowance of 9.60 euros/day and vacation and holiday pay. Christmas benefits.

In addition, “all Lidl employees, regardless of their working hours or contract, have a reference health insurance with a market value of 440 euros, extended to their household on very advantageous conditions”, and can also enjoy a day off on their birthday (or on a date at the employee’s choice, from 2024) and three additional days of vacation in the absence of unjustified absences.

For 28 years, Lidl has had approximately 9,000 employees in Portugal, spread over more than 270 stores and four regional departments and warehouses, in addition to the head office, in Santo Tirso (North), Torres Novas (West), Sintra (Centre) and Palmela (South).
