Traveling with Air France before the war meant taking your time. To get to Hanoi you had to plan a week with many stops. The arrival of airplanes with pressurized cabins changed the situation in the 1950s. The flight from Paris to New York then lasted less than 17 hours. Starting in 1960, Air France will have Boeing airplanes capable of crossing the Atlantic in 8 hours. The duration has been halved again since 1977 for Concorde passengers.

90 years of Air France: a series of podcasts to celebrate this anniversary Four episodes, almost an hour of anecdotes and historical testimonies, will tell you starting this Monday the saga of the national company. You will know that in 1937, the press welcomed a notable acceleration of the France-Indochina service provided by Air France. The journey that will then begin in Marseille will no longer last seven days but… six and a half days, thanks to the creation of a landing site in Tripoli, Syria. You will discover how, in about twenty years, the duration of the Paris-New York trip was reduced from almost 17 hours to 3 and a half hours, thanks, obviously, to the arrival of the Concorde. A flight attendant who served on board this legendary plane from 1989 to the end will tell you what the trip was like. And after history, the future. The last part of this podcast series will be dedicated to this. What Air France will be like when it celebrates its centenary. Anne Rigail, its general director, will tell us if the Concorde will have a successor and how artificial intelligence will or will not interfere in the daily lives of its employees and passengers.
