Some 4,000 employees of the manufacturer Mack Trucks decided to join the strike movement launched in mid-September to demand better wage conditions in the American automobile industry, the United Auto Workers (UAW) union announced on Sunday.
“UAW members voted to reject a draft agreement and will strike starting at 7:00 a.m. (11:00 GMT) on Monday,” the organization said on X (formerly Twitter).
25,000 employees on strike
These employees join the 25,000 employees of the “Big Three”, the three large manufacturers in the United States (General Motors, Ford and Stellantis) who are already on strike within the framework of the movement launched on September 15 by the UAW.
This selective strike movement, affecting only a fraction of the union’s 146,000 employees, was launched when collective agreements expired and no agreement was reached on new ones.
The UAW is calling for wage increases, cost-of-living measures and various other benefits.
Mack Trucks, a subsidiary of Sweden’s heavy-duty truck maker Volvo, operates two factories in the eastern United States, in Pennsylvania and Maryland.
