Fuel shortage: FlixBus would like to be among the priority companies

The coach service estimates that fuel shortages could prevent “several tens of thousands of travellers” from traveling on FlixBus in the coming days.

The long-distance coach service FlixBus requested this Monday that its sector benefit from priority access to fuel, given the shortage due to social conflicts and that, according to him, runs the risk of affecting “tens of thousands of travelers”.

Germany-based FlixBus, which claims the status of “Europe’s leading road passenger carrier”, has called on the French government “to include regular passenger transport in its future priority measures to combat fuel shortages”, the company said in a statement.

“Our activity is based on collaboration with around fifty coach partners, mainly VSE/family SMEs, from all over France, whose activity, already affected by the increase in fuel prices and the shortage of drivers, would still suffer a little more for not being able to equip their regular medium and long distance lines with FlixBus”, he begged.

“Difficulties still limited”

From the same source, “several tens of thousands of travelers who have planned to travel with FlixBus in the coming days and weeks could be prevented from doing so, without an equivalent alternative solution, if carriers ran out of fuel.”

For the time being, however, “operational difficulties remain limited today”, affirmed the regional director of FlixBus, Yvan Lefranc-Morin, who also acknowledged that “essential sectors must continue to be a priority in the measures that will be taken to combat the current shortage.

The strike for wages in TotalEnergies lasted from Monday to Tuesday in refineries and oil depots, and extended to fifteen highway service stations. The movement was also renewed in the two French refineries of the Esso-ExxonMobil group, according to the CGT.
