The incident is quite rare. This Monday, October 16, a TGV linking Brussels with Strasbourg ended up by mistake at the Marne-la-Vallée TGV station, the entry point to visit Disneyland Paris.
The cause is a switching error at the Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle TGV station, explains SNCF Réseau. This train transports European parliamentarians between the two cities, while a new parliamentary session opens in Strasbourg today until October 19.
Contacted by BFM Business, SNCF Réseau confirms the incident.
“The SNCF Réseau asks travelers to apologize for the delay of the Brussels-Strasbourg train. The train was heading to Marne-La-Vallée instead of taking the high-speed line.”
The train lost the interconnection when approaching Ile-de-France and was therefore sent towards Marne-la-Vallée. Here he had to turn around to finally reach Strasbourg as initially planned.
The travelers have reached their destination, as the train has returned to Strasbourg. “It arrived at its destination (Strasbourg) at 12:50, 45 minutes late,” explains SNCF Réseau in a statement sent to the press.
Every month, a train carries several hundred MEPs and their colleagues from Brussels to Strasbourg to attend the plenary session of Parliament.
