Papier Tigre writes the rest of his story in Exacompta Clairfontaine. The small Parisian paper specialist has just been bought by the historical player on the market. This was announced by its president Julien Crespel through a publication on the professional social network LinkedIn.
The Parisian startup, founded in 2012 by Julien Crespel and Maxime Brenon, thus joins the brands of the family group based in the Vosges. Publicly listed, Exacompta Clairefontaine has been manufacturing the famous school notebook since 1858 and today has six-figure annual production thanks to four factories and more than 3,500 employees.
An increase in the cost of pulp and energy.
Its absorption by the historic paper and school supplies manufacturer represents a “big step” for Papier Tigre.
It occurs in a context of increasing pulp and energy costs, which are especially high for the sector. Previously, the small and growing Parisian company had already been affected by the health crisis, during which it saw its turnover fall by 80% from €1 million in 2019.
At the time of its launch, Papier Tigre set itself the goal of dusting off the world of stationery with modern and high-end products. It currently has two stores, in the center of Paris and in Tokyo, Japan, and should continue, under the direction of Exacompta Clairefontaine, to develop its brand in a high-end segment.
