This is one of the decisions made during the social conference at the beginning of the week. The branches that have lasting minimums lower than the minimum wage will be called and their names will be made public.
According to the latest figures from the Ministry of Labor, around sixty branches out of a total of 171 still have minimum wages below the minimum wage. For some, it’s just a matter of time. They have been slow to renegotiate since the last minimum wage increase last May. For others, however, this is a structural problem: according to Olivier Dussopt, “between eight and ten branches have minimum wages permanently below the minimum wage.” They are the ones in the crosshairs of the Ministry of Labor.
Casino, clothing… Six designated branches
Their names have not yet been revealed, but according to several unions, at least six branches should appear on the list. Among them, textile heavyweights such as “clothing and retail branch”, which brings together 109,700 employees, or “clothing and retail trade” and its 62,300 employees. These two branches have always had minimums below the minimum wage since the beginning of 2022.
Another bad student: direct distribution, specialized in the distribution of newspapers and brochures, photography, complementary retirement institutions and even casinos.
These branches employ a total of almost 250,000 employees. They should be summoned to the Ministry of Labor in the next few days and then they will have eight months to react. Otherwise, the government threatens legal action. If the situation has not improved next June, he will propose a bill to reduce the fee exemptions enjoyed by these branches. Specifically, these reductions will no longer be calculated on the SMIC but on its minimums.
