An “incident” prevents credit card payments in several businesses this Saturday

Several department stores were unable to charge their customers by bank card this Saturday, due to an “incident” that is now being resolved.

But what is happening with credit card payments this Saturday, October 21? It all started at noon with messages posted on Twitter by customers of the Carrefour brand. They describe endless queues, shoppers who prefer to abandon their shopping carts and employees who try to manage the situation as best they can… The cause: a technical problem related to the bank card payment system and which forces customers to pay your purchases in cash.

Only Carrefour is far from the only brand affected. Ikea, McDonald’s, Darty and even the SNCF have all encountered the same type of dysfunction.

Neither “cyber attack”, nor “payment network problem”

Contacted by us, the Bank Card Economic Interest Group (GIE CB) ruled out the hypothesis of a cyberattack.

“The latter has identified the problem, which is being resolved. Central banks are affected, as are banks, merchants or other payment methods brands, and therefore cannot say more,” he added.
