Maximum amount of unemployment benefits increases from 89 euros to 1196.75 euros

The minimum amount of unemployment benefits is expected to increase in 2023 to €550.5 and the maximum amount to €1196.75, following the update of the IAS foreseen in the proposed government budget for 2023.

The IAS serves as a reference for various types of support and social benefits, including minimum and maximum unemployment benefit amounts.

According to the budget proposal, which was submitted to the House of Representatives on Monday, the Social Support Index (IAS) will be updated by 8% next year to 478.7 euros.

For example, the minimum amount of unemployment benefit, for those who have at least the national minimum wage as a reference wage (which will be 760 euros in 2023), increases by 40.8 euros to 550.5 euros, as it corresponds to 1.15 IAS.

The maximum subsidy amount, which is equal to 2.5 IAS, will increase in 2023 by 88.75 euros to 1,196.75 euros.

The IAS is the reference value for the calculation and determination of various social support, such as child benefit, social benefit for inclusion, the Social Insertion Income (RSI) among others, “which can have an impact on the lives of 1.6 million beneficiaries”, says the government in the OE2023 report.

In January of this year, a decree-law came into effect that set the minimum amount of unemployment benefits at 1.15 Social Support Indexes (IAS).

The Decree Act also made the 10% increase in unemployment benefit final in the case of situations where both parents are unemployed or in the situation of single-parent families.
