Gross domestic product (GDP) fell by 0.2% between July and September compared to the second quarter, according to the quick estimate of GDP in volume from the National Statistical Institute (INE) on Tuesday.
“Compared to the second quarter of 2023, GDP recorded a decline of 0.2%, following quarter-on-quarter growth of 0.1% in the previous quarter,” the INE statistical note said.
The national accounts for the third quarter also indicate that “the contribution of net external demand to the chain rate of change in GDP turned negative after being positive in the second quarter, reflecting the decline in exports of both goods and services, including tourism. The contribution of domestic demand went from negative to positive in the third quarter, with increases in private consumption and investment observed.”
