Storm Ciaran: insurers extend claim submission deadline to 30 days

The Federation of Insurers announced specific measures “in view of the exceptional circumstances to better assist victims.”

The reporting deadline for claims related to Storm Ciaran will be extended until December 1, 2023, i.e. thirty days after the storm passed, France Assureurs announced in a press release on Thursday.

The period is usually five days, ten days if the state of natural disaster is recognized by order.

Nearly 6,500 claims have already been submitted to Macif for damage caused by Storm Ciaran, Macif announced in a press release.

A specific crisis unit

The Covea group (MAAF, MMA and GMF brands) indicated for its part that it had activated a specific crisis unit and mobilized specialized teams to take charge of the compensation of damages with their immediate settlement and without experience when possible.

As for Axa, the insurer announced the immediate payment of an advance compensation of up to 1,500 euros, with or without an expert opinion. The insurer also extends the emergency rehousing period to 14 days instead of the usual 7 for affected policyholders.

Using a modeling tool, insurance consultancy Saretec estimated on Thursday that Storm Ciaran had caused an estimated €375 million in damage to buildings, including €50 million in damage to businesses.
