The Assembly of French Departments (AdF), which is holding its annual meeting until Friday in Agen (Lot-et-Garonne), is ready to conditionally start the “path” of public spending control desired by the government, says its President Francois Sauvadet. “We are all aware that an effort must be made to control budget spending,” acknowledges the president of the UDI of the AdF, who will receive Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne in Agen on Friday, whose spirit “welcomes listening” .
“It is a path of responsibility that we have undertaken with the Government”, he believes, and specifies that “co-construction is not the renunciation of our convictions” after a first five years of Emmanuel Macron marked by strong tensions between the executive and the associations of elected officials , all controlled by the opposition.
An effort of 0.5% of the departments on inflation
Like the president of the Regions of France, PS Carole Delga, a month ago, the departments are approaching Elisabeth Borne. “We are going to participate in this trajectory that she is responsible for”, explains the president of the AdF. “We have said (to the Executive) that we want to make an effort to control public spending, but not to the detriment of our actions,” he demands, specifying that he has asked the Government to “get out of the way” of spending decided by the State and of those that the departments “do not own” such as the increase in the RSA or the index point increase for officials.
In addition, François Sauvadet claims to have been “heard by the government” about compensation for rising energy or food prices.
“Only in this way will we see the situation of the departments that have overcome the trajectory and the reasons why they have overcome it,” he stresses.
