Storms: 93,000 homes still without electricity in Brittany and Normandy, 33,000 in the southwest

According to the latest update from Enedis, more than 92% of homes affected by Storm Ciaran have been reconnected to the electricity grid. In the Southwest, this rate reaches 79% for households affected by Storm Domingo.

The goal set by Emmanuel Macron on Friday has been achieved: more than 90% of households deprived of electricity after the passage of Storm Ciaran are now reconnected to the grid. The distributor Enedis made a new update on the situation this Monday morning and indicates that 92.5% of the homes have already been restored.

Thus, there are 93,000 homes that still need electricity, the vast majority of them located in Brittany (81,000), while just over 10,000 still lack electricity in Normandy.

A “very destroyed and damaged” network in certain areas

In the southwest of the country affected by Storm Domingos, the reconnection rate has already reached 79%, as clarified by Marianne Laigneau. According to the president of the board of directors of Enedis, there are 33,000 homes without electricity “mainly in Gironde, in the Arcachon basin and in Vendée” and, above all, in Charente-Maritime, which concentrates half of them, compared to 50,000 in Sunday afternoon. While in Brittany and Normandy there are 3,400 workers on the ground, of which 1,400 Enedis employees who have come to reinforce other regions and 1,000 service providers, 1,000 technicians are deployed in the southwest, including almost a third of the service providers. Enedis services.

On Franceinfo, the representative provided some elements to explain the slightly longer recovery time in certain areas. “We are restoring thousands of customers’ pockets,” explains Marianne Laigneau. To restore low voltage customers you have to go to the fields, to roads that are difficult to access. In many places, the network is very destroyed and damaged, the trees were full of leaves, they fell on the lines.”
