The bad news was announced internally at the end of last week at Toujust. According to our information, a month after the discount supermarket brand was put into bankruptcy, this Wednesday the liquidation of its parent company Tazita will be declared with, incidentally, a dismissal procedure for the thirty employees of this holding company.
The promise of founder Fabrice Gerber, who wanted to revolutionize the large-scale retail sector with products between 5 and 10% cheaper than their direct competitors, mainly in short circuits, was short-lived.
“Eyes bigger than your stomach”
After a first store opening with great fanfare, in Alès (Gard), in March, and four others in the process, the dust settled and the shelves were emptied. The suppliers, who were not paid, stopped making their deliveries, explains one source, who mentions “blackboards” of up to several tens of thousands of euros, which left some of these suppliers in great difficulties. A carrier, an SME, is still waiting for its 9,000 euros and has stopped collaborating with the group.
The founder of Toujust “had eyes bigger than his stomach,” explains an important player in the sector. Fabrice Gerber aimed to open between 40 and 50 stores by the end of this year. He assures her that he was deceived by an investor and promises to fight for his five existing stores. According to our information, he intends to present a continuation plan. The name of the discounter TEDi, a German specialist in deeply discounted non-food items, is circulating as a potential buyer.
