The Internal Revenue Service (AT) has warned of a new fraudulent email being sent on its behalf to taxpayers requesting correction of the IRS return, warning that such messages are false.
The IRS is aware that some taxpayers are receiving emails purportedly from the AT asking them to address inaccuracies in the IRS statement by clicking on a ‘link’. Financial Daily. Portal.
The AT emphasizes that “these messages are false and should be ignored”, as they are only intended to “convince the recipient to download malicious software”, so “under no circumstances” should taxpayers perform this operation.
This was the first warning of its kind in October, following four warnings from the AT in September.
