Seven large agri-food companies have committed to providing “more than 6,000 tons of food” to associations fighting food insecurity, the Ministry of Agriculture announced on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, a meeting was organized at the Ministry that brought together “the main associations and a panel of food producing companies” to “make additional commitments in favor of the fight against food insecurity” and allow the associations to better confront “inflation and greater assistance to distribution centers,” the ministry said in a press release.
In the end, the companies Andros, Bigard, Cofigeo, Nestlé, Panzani, as well as the cooperative groups Sodiaal and Vivescia “committed to providing an additional tranche of aid, in the form of donations or sales at cost price, for more than 6,000 tons of food products”, including milk, flour, cereals, cakes and even frozen chopped steaks.
“This represents the equivalent of more than 2 million meals distributed. The additional donations from these companies represent a monetary value of almost 3 million euros,” the ministry also indicates.
