130,000 customers: the electricity purchase offer of the UFC Que-Choisir group is a success

Three weeks after its announcement, the consumer association’s collective electricity purchase offer has a record number of 130,000 customers who will save around 160 euros each year on their annual bill.

The offer was limited to the first 120,000 subscribers who had to apply by November 15. But the ceiling of the collective electricity purchase offer launched by SAS Que Choisir of the UFC consumer association was finally increased to 130,000 subscribers, thus surpassing the record of 120,000 customers set during the last similar operation in 2019. They will thus benefit from the proposed contract. by the supplier Octopus Energy, heir to the Plum company absorbed by the British group that won the tender with a price per KWh approximately 12% cheaper than the regulated sales tariff (TRV) for two years.

UFC political action director Que-Choisir also specifies that some of these new clients have already switched to this new offer after canceling the previous one. The most represented regions among the 130,000 subscribers are Ile-de-France, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Occitania, side by side with Hauts-de-France. Although the last group purchase of gas and electricity in 2019 allowed an average annual saving of 154 euros, with this new operation it rises to 160 euros, that is, a total of 21 million euros in energy purchases saved in one year, that could increase. depending on future upward revisions of the TRV.

Soon a similar operation for gas?

Cédric Musso attributes the success of this new group purchasing offer to the context of tension over the purchasing power of the French, although “energy prices have always been a great concern”: “With the explosion in prices that occurred from 2021 which has increased the TRV by more than 70% in 10 years and 26% in 2023 alone, is a priority for 9 out of 10 French people according to the barometer of the National Energy Mediator. Many French people have difficulty paying their bills, especially among the youngest, and energy poverty is increasing in France.”

UFC Que-Choisir has decided to focus solely on electricity as part of this group purchasing offer after the last 10% increase in the regulated sales tariff last August and the announcement of a probable additional 10% increase next February. “It was time to allow consumers to escape the TRV increase,” insists Cédric Musso. However, the director of political action of the consumer association does not close the door to a similar operation on gas in the coming months:
