The car market in Portugal increased by around 28% between January and November, compared to the same period last year, with 215,220 new vehicles, according to data from ACAP – Associação Automóvel de Portugal.
“From January to November 2023, 215,220 new vehicles were put into service, which represents a decrease of 12.7% compared to the same period in 2019, although the comparison with 2022 shows an increase of 27.8%,” indicated in a statement.
In November alone, 19,439 cars were registered, a decrease of 1% compared to 2019 and an increase of 9.8% compared to the same month in 2022.
By vehicle type, light passenger car registrations totaled 182,988 between January and November, down 11.6% compared to the same period in 2019.
Compared to 2022, this market saw a gain of 28.6%.
“From January to November 2023, 51.2% of new registered passenger vehicles were powered by other types of energy, namely electric and hybrid. In particular, it appears that 17.7% of new passenger vehicles were electric”he explained.
In the first eleven months of the year, the light goods market in turn grew by 22.5% to 25,218 units.
The number of registrations of heavy passenger and freight vehicles amounted to 7,014 units in November, up 26.6% compared to the same period in 2022.
