Known for its chocolate drink, Cacolac is branching out into wine cans.

The Bordeaux company Cacolac has started an activity of packaging alcoholic beverages in cans.

Cacolac is a chocolate drink and also… canned wine. The Bordeaux company, known for its chocolate-flavored milk, is now betting on packaging alcoholic beverages in cans to diversify its activities.

Accustomed to bottling beverages, Cacolac “has industrial know-how that has been valued for several years, especially in the world of alcohol,” explains its president, Christian Mauviel, to BFM Business.

The company has invested ten million euros in a new production line at its headquarters in Léognan, Gironde, to “double the filling potential” of wine and beer cans, says Christian Mauviel, who bought the entire company. company founded by his family in 2015. who had sold it a few years before to investment funds. This new 5,000 square meter factory will allow Cacolac to package between 20 and 40 million cans.

Rosés, whites and even reds

Canned containers refer to wines that do not need to be aged in the cellar. “The can refers first of all to the wines that are going to be stored in the refrigerator”, such as rosé wines or white wines, explains Christian Mauviel. But it is also possible to offer canned red wine “for a slightly different consumption,” he says. “Instead of opening a bottle, you open a 18.7 centilitre or 25 centilitre can,” for more moderate consumption.

Cacolac will celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2024. The company, which has around fifty employees, had a turnover of 25 million euros in 2022. It hopes to reach between 30 and 35 million euros thanks to its new factory.
