British low-cost carrier Jet2.com has ordered 35 A320neo aircraft from Airbus, a year after its first acquisition, increasing its fleet of A320neo single-aisle family jets to 98, the manufacturer announced on Tuesday.
Jet2.com placed its first order for Airbus planes in August 2021, deeming them “more efficient,” according to a statement issued by the company at the time. Previously it was almost exclusively equipped with Boeing 737NG.
This order will bring to 98 the number of aircraft in the A320neo Family held by Jet2.com, which had previously purchased longer A321neos.
25% fuel savings
The 180-seat A320neo for Jet2.com features a “next-generation” engine and wings that deliver “more than 25% fuel and CO2 savings,” Airbus said in a statement.
In September 2022, China’s Xiamen Airlines ordered 40 Airbus A320neos, following a sizeable order for 292 A320 Family aircraft from several other Chinese airlines.
As of late summer 2022, Airbus had 8,500 orders for A320neo Family aircraft from more than 130 customers worldwide, the manufacturer said.
Although weakened by the pandemic, airlines around the world are looking to prepare for global traffic growth, which is expected to double in the next twenty years compared to 2019.
Many companies are gradually renewing their fleets with more modern aircraft to reduce the environmental impact of one of the sectors that emits the most greenhouse gases.
