Emmanuel Macron will make two state trips to Latin America from November 5 to 7

The head of state is expected to visit Brazil on November 5 and 6. Then he will fly to Mexico until November 7, in order to “strengthen political and strategic ties” between the two countries.

French President Emmanuel Macron will make two trips next week to Latin America, first to Brazil, a few days before the start of COP30, and then to Mexico, on an official visit, the Elysée reported on Friday.

With less than a week to go before COP30, the annual conference on climate negotiations, which will be held from November 10 to 21, the Head of State is scheduled to participate from November 5 to 6 in Brazil, in particular at a meeting of Heads of State to be held in Belem, a port city in the Amazon.

“Confirm our partnership with Brazil”

Emmanuel Macron will travel to Salvador de Bahia on November 5 to “confirm the density of our partnership with Brazil”, but also “to celebrate and work with Brasilia in a reinvented transaltic relationship, bringing together our African partners”, explained the Elysée.

In this sense, the French president will visit the gallery of photographer Pierre Verger, “an emblematic figure of the dialogue between European and Afro-Atlantic cultures.”

Or the exhibition “I am a black river”, whose curator, the French-Senegalese Salima Tadiop, resides in Villa Fatoumbi, a transaltic exchange program that connects artists, institutions, festivals and cultural structures from France, Brazil and Africa.

“Strengthening ties between France and Mexico”

On the afternoon of November 6, Emmanuel Macron will leave Belém to travel to Mexico until November 7. This will be his first official visit since President Claudia Sheinbaum took office just a year ago.

According to the Elysée, the French president’s visit will aim to strengthen the political and strategic ties between France and Mexico – respect for multilateralism, commitments in the fight against climate change, international solidarity, feminist diplomacy – but also to deepen their economic ties.

France, with this visit, aims in particular to increase its attractiveness among large Mexican companies, and promote projects and investments with large French companies.
