Sushis, hamburgers, pizzas… Uber Eats promises its customers a wide variety of dishes to be delivered to their homes. But, since October 17, the platform also offers cannabis-based products to its customers who live in Toronto, Canada.
Uber Eats has partnered with Loalfy, a site specializing in the sale of cannabis. Torontonians will be able to order cannabis resin or flowers, candies and cannabis-based beverages at three shops in the city, Hidden Leaf Cannabis, Minerva Cannabis and Shivaa’s Rose, reports Press.
This is not the first time for the company. In November 2021, it had already announced a partnership with Tokyo Smoke, another player in the sale of cannabis, to expand its offer. He had also chosen Canada, where soft drugs were legalized four years ago, and in particular the province of Ontario.
However, this agreement did not allow home delivery and required going to the store to pick up the order.
Fight against illegal sales
This time, it is a delivery service that cannabis users can benefit from. To place your orders on the Uber Eats app, you must confirm that you are at least 19 years old. The delivery is then ensured, not by platform deliverers, but by employees who have received official training. Once they arrive at the delivery point, they are especially responsible for verifying the customer’s age.
The management of the platform presents this new offer as a way to help the Canadian authorities fight against the illegal sale of cannabis.
Home delivery of cannabis “helps combat the illegal sales market, as well as reduce the number of people who drive drunk,” he added.
The US company did not specify the amount of commission it charges on each delivery.
