“Eurobonds”: Emmanuel Macron asks Europe to issue common debt again

From Davos, the president called on Europe to invest much more in “top priorities for the future.” To achieve this, he proposes the issuance of joint debt and the establishment of a true Capital Markets Union.

“We need to invest a lot more.” Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos this Wednesday, Emmanuel Macron called on the European Union to mobilize to invest in “main priorities for the future”, in particular “daring to use Eurobonds again”.

The President of the Republic also asked to “deepen the Capital Markets Union” because “our continent has a lot of savings but these savings are poorly allocated.” If the proposal does not have the unanimity of the 27, he said he was willing to “propose advancing in reinforced cooperation” with certain States “because we must move forward.”
